About the artist

Laila k. Lott is a Brooklyn-based interdisciplinary artist, designer, and metalsmith with a day job as a mount maker for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Her personal work blends ancient and contemporary elements into pieces that aim to elevate everyday actions by encouraging more ceremonial interactions with our belongings . By inviting ritual into the habitual we might reconsider what in our lives is truly worthy of reverence. Combining her art practice and experience working in the museum world, this new series pushes the concept even further by questioning if the way something is displayed denotes its value. What if we chose to show veneration for the simple things getting us through each day while simultaneously relishing in the absurdity of what that actually looks like?
