About the artist
Known for the 2020 Disco Chair, Los Angeles based Rachel Shillander, of LA.LLand, is an artist and architect whose practice is focused on domestic object design and construction. Through the physical objectification of architectural concepts, using building materials, means & methods, her studio works explore intangible ideas of dwelling, ethics, nostalgia, place, time, and interpersonal relationships. By using familiar materials, forms, and traditional building systems, these abstract concepts are turned into accessible scale, semi-functional maquettes.
