About the artist
Henry Merker (Philadelphia, b. 1996) designs experimental home goods in wood using a combination of CNC machining and traditional woodworking processes. In his studio practice, he is driven by the pursuit of rare shapes - forms that question design conventions and reveal the beauty of wood through its versatility. In addition to producing collections for local Philadelphia galleries such as Commonweal and Dudd Haus, Henry has refined his practice through artist residencies at The Museum for Art in Wood (Philadelphia, PA), Anderson Ranch Arts Center (Snowmass, CO), and Pocosin Arts School of Craft (Columbia, NC). He currently runs his studio in tandem with freelance careers in product design, furniture fabrication, and teaching at Drexel University.
