About the artist

Drifting across the boundaries of space and form, ili.ad navigates the textures, rhythms, and atmospheres of the built world. From fragments — a jaunty rooftop urn’s handle, a forlorn parabolic diving platform in an off-season Lido — ili.ad distills inspiration into objects that reflect their origins while transcending them, each piece imbued with evocative presence. Each piece in this series begins with a slow, deliberate process — tracing lines, refining curves, nudging sketches into form. In the long hours, memory slips in, alighting briefly before folding itself into the work. As the piece took shape, the flash of an extraordinary bus shelter on the way to visit Emile Aillaud’s Le Serpentin on the outskirts of Paris returned to me. Its sweeping, avian UFO-trefoil canopy lingered here in an unexpected revisitation of Asiatic crane and serpent duality.
