About the artist

Alexis grew up in a small town in the desert. She watched the care her grandmother had as she made rosaries, and spent a lot of time in places of worship, quietly examining space and object, two things that made a reality. This curiosity and relationship with design inspired her to study architecture, as well as receive her MFA in Furniture Design from the Rhode Island School of Design. Her work celebrates quiet moments of intention and care that are integrally linked to tradition and identity. Using materiality and scale her work displays the beautiful relationships and histories by emphasizing the mundane. In Spring of 2023, Alexis launched her furniture studio Alexis & Ginger, with partner Ginger Gordon. Based out of Brooklyn, New York they work in tandem to create pieces that evoke a tactility in time, relics that are linked to the past and present.
